Polynucleotides.
What are they?
-
“Poly” = long chains. “Nucleotides” = building blocks of DNA.
-
Highly purified DNA derived from salmon/trout -high purification makes them very safe to use.
-
At Dr Smith Aesthetics - we use Plinest polynucleotides by Mastelli - Used for many years in regenerative medicine with lots of scientific research behind it.
What do they do?
-
Target your own skin cells called fibroblasts to promote skin rejuvenation from within.
-
Fibroblasts are responsible for producing collagen and elastin - essential for skin structure, framework, wound healing and overall skin health. The more we age, the less efficient our fibroblast cells are - leading to the less desired effects of ageing.
-
Help regulate skin cells called melanocytes to help control pigmentation and help with uneven skin tone - dark pigmentation or dark circles under eyes.
-
Overall skin health and healing - good for scars and inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema. Give a healthy, glowing appearance.
Where can they be used?
-
Pretty much anywhere!
What concerns do they target?
-
Fine lines and wrinkles - increase skin structural support with increasing your own collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production.
-
Improve overall skin health and glow.
-
Under eye lines or puffiness - help to tighten the under eye area.
-
Dark eye circles - dark circles can be due to multiple factors, such as - hollowing, thin skin, pigmentation. Polynucleotides can improve all of these.
-
Hair loss - improved the skin environment to help stimulate hair growth as well as thicken current hair - Great in combination with other treatments such as PRP.
How is it given?
-
Numbing cream is used to cover the target area to help numb the skin.
-
Multiple, small, superficial injections in the target area with a small needle (mesotherapy), resulting in small “blebs” under the skin.
-
Can also be given via a dermal cannula under the skin - less precise but covers a wide area with only a few injection sites.
What is the downtime/recovery?
-
Mesotherapy/small bleb technique - Small blebs can last a number of hours.
-
Cannula technique is better if have important events the next few days.
-
Possibility of having minor swelling and bruising for a few days.
-
Discuss which option is best with the practitioner if having a a big event a few days post treatment.
-
Highly purified so very safe.
-
Can have alongside other treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, PRP and skin boosters.
Treatment course:
-
Recommended treatment course; 3x treatments of the target area 2-4 weeks apart, followed by a 1x maintenance every 6-12 months.
-
Note scalp polynucleotide recommended course: 4x treatments, spaced 1-2 weeks apart, followed by 4x treatments every 3 weeks apart.
Results
-
As they work at a cellular level, results are gradual, rather than a quick fix - can see results after 1st or 2nd treatment.
-
Great for patients who want a more natural approach rather than anti-wrinkle injections or fillers.
-
Work great with other treatments or alone.
